> Amsterdam Canal Parade, August 2004

This year's annual Amsterdam Canal Parade - part of the Amsterdam Gay Pride events - was as exuberant as ever.

Since its inception in 1995 the event has become one of Amsterdam's most popular visitor features with more than 250,000 spectators.

With gaily-decorated boats, barges and other floating devices, the parade sets off from the Westerdok and goes along the Prinsengracht canal to the Amstel. It then goes past the Stadhuis and Muziektheater before finishing at the Oosterdok via Oude Schans.
